SLJ – Summer Styles Kick Start

For the Summer Learning Journey I did the activity summer styles, this activity was about making your own bookmark  on google draw or by hand, I choose to do it by hand as I wanted to use my creativity and create something of my own, I choose a word to use on my bookmark the word being peace as it reminds me about being mindful, calm and restful which also led me to choose a sun to add on.

This activity was fun as I used my creativity skills to make a bookmark of my own design.

SLJ ComicQuest

For today’s SLJ was to create a comic strip about a day at the beach, My partner and I used our creativity and came up with an ideas to make up a story before picking one, the decision we came to was saving a crabs family and building them a home.

I found this activity fun as we used our creativity and ideas to create a story.

Superhero – Kick Start

The SLJ kick start activity was to create a superhero of our own, Kyine is a Burmese superhero having aspects of various abilities, weapons, and more. She having all the necessities a superhero needs as well as including aspects of the Myanmar culture, an example being her name having the meaning of a sweet scent and being precious as emerald.

This kick start was fun to do as I was able to include and embrace my culture into an activity as well as being able to represent it.

Celebrating Diwali

Our challenge was to write create a DLO that tells others what Diwali is and how people celebrate around the world. Something I found interesting was that Diwali is about new beginnings because its about celebrating of the return of Sita and Rama.

I found this activity interesting because I learnt about a different celebration and the story behind Diwali.

Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument

LI: To use your smart searching skills to find the story behind this picture

Our challenge was to write create a DLO that shows where this lighthouse is and what the story is behind the image. We found out that the Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument is a lighthouse in ouessant in the sea of Iroise.

I found this activity interesting because I learnt about the story behind the Mare lighthouse

Cultural Superheroes

LI: To describe your superhero

Our challenge was to design a DLO of the story they are in using key vocabulary from all our T- shaped units to describe them and their attributes. We built on this challenge by creating a slide that explained who our superhero was, their backstory, what their strengths and weaknesses were and who their nemesis was. My superhero is a teenage Burmese girl who had unique powers with a backstory like no others keeping her world safe from danger.

I found this activity fun because I was able embrace my culture to make a superhero.

What happened down the stairs?

LI: To understand the 5 senses can be used to strengthen a description

For this activity our challenge was to co construct a text using the olfactory, auditory, gustatorial, visual and kinaesthetic senses to describe the story behind the shoes in this image. This time we were able to speak and sat facing our partners.

Once we had completed this part of the challenge we joined together with another group to share our writing and make sure what we had written made sense and had met the language feature challenge.

I found this activity fun because I was able to work collaboratively with my partner.

These Shoes have a story to tell

LI: To use the 5 senses and personification to help us paint a picture with words.

To understand that personification is to give an inanimate object human qualities

Our challenge was to co construct a text using personification and the senses to describe the story behind the shoes in this image. We sat back to back and weren’t able to talk  however we were still able to get it done and work collaboratively, Half way through Mrs Anderson challenged us to include a rhetorical question and a simile or metaphor, Once we had completed this part of the challenge we joined together with another group to share our writing and make sure what we had written made sense. After that part of the challenge was finished we used the punctuation points game to see what punctuations we used, We marked each other’s punctuation against the points table. We then had a chance to check our own work against the points table. That was fun because every point our partners missed meant we could take a point off theirs.

I found this activity interesting because I was able to learn about personification and what it means.

Māori Enterprise

This week for inquiry we learnt about the Māori enterprise and how people had done trading’s in the 19 century. People had done trading’s in the 19 century by settling in areas with good access to resources. Some of the rescores going fishing, growing crops and collected resources. By doing this people would have access to trade things with something with equal or better value.

I found this activity interesting as I was able to learn about what the Māori enterprise was and how they did trading’s.

Something Happened Here

LI : To learn how to search and unravel the past/history of New Zealand

This week we investigated  and we discovered the riddled mysteries about the past. Me and my partner chose the card called Promises. After we chose the cards we had to research about where that part of the country is and we landed in Temuka / Te Umu Kaha Then we did the tasks about the history of the summaries that we read.

I found this activity interesting as I was able to discover the history behind the people of the south island and and being able to work collaboratively with my partner.
